At the Beck Hole junction follow the road around to the left (signposted ‘Church, Mallyan Spout’). Turn right (through a gate) down the side of the Mallyan Spout Hotel, signposted ‘Footpath Mallyan Spout’, and descend into the woods. At the junction at the bottom, the path to the left leads upstream to Mallyan Spout.

Thomason Foss is a picturesque waterfall between the villages of Goathland and Beck Hole in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The waterfall is set in a pretty woodland ravine on Eller Beck. The North Yorkshire Moors heritage railway runs just to the north of the waterfall at the top of the ravine.

The walk between Goathland and Grosmont climbs initially on to the moors. Here the views open out spectacularly. After dropping in to Grosmont (best place to see the steam trains) return via the old Rail Trail. This is one of my favourite walks in the North York Moors .
