Kua bay is a popular destination in the weekend for locals and tourists, so the best time to visit is during weekdays. There is little shelter from the sun and in general we like to go early to avoid the midday sun (and crowds).

How do I get to Kua Bay?
Kua Bay is located just 12 miles north of Kailua-Kona along the Kohala Coast between the 88 and 89-mile markers on Hwy 19 right across from the entrance to West Hawaii Veteran’s Cemetery. Follow the road about a mile to the beach. There is a gate at the entrance that opens at 8 am and closes at 7 pm.

Drive about 1.5 miles down the Kua Bay Access Rd. to the parking lot at the end. The parking lot tends to fill quickly during the weekends, so people also park along the sides of the last part of the road. There is a roundabout at the end of the road which makes exiting more convenient.
