Why does Gandalf fear the Balrog?
This put the balrog at a tremendous disadvantage. Gandalf is one of the biggest entities in Middle-earth, being one of the five angelic Maiar sent there during the Third Age. In a disturbing twist, it turns out Gandalf had much to fear from the Balrog, seeing as how the it is basically an evil version of Gandalf.
